Drawing And Measurement 2

Another developed piece from my Drawing and Measurement project. For this one I explored more with the texts, and used a variety of materials but only developed it a bit, just at the bottom corner with the small bag of buttons, threads and sequins that was stapled on. I liked the simple touch, it helped the piece stand out more.

Drawing And Measurement

This was a piece from my drawing and measurement project. The brief asked me to explore with different texts and fonts and sizes using different materials. So I made a box and drew and cut an 'a' and glued it down, I worked with other symbols like commas, '&' signs, full stops and the number 23. Just a mixture of stuff. Then my brief asked me to bring stuff that I like or stuff that relate to me and other random stuff to develop this piece further. So I brought buttons and sequins and threads because at home I like to do a lot of sewing, and developed my work further using other materials like receipts, train tickets and big paper clips.
I also inverted the piece to get a different look and I liked how the texts from the receipt and train ticket stood out a lot.

Visual Self Portrait (Monoprint)

Another monoprint work I did for my self visual project. This one was based on my little sister who came into the family 12 years later after me and my twin sister hence the title. I kept it simple because I was trying to portray how simple a child's life is. For me and my sisters we went through high school, college and uni. stressing for exams, work, the laughs and tears with friends and families , marriages and what not whereas my little sister is living the simple life where she plays and watches tv and has fun at school.

Visual Self Portrait (Monoprint) -

This is an incomplete monoprint of my eldest sister on her wedding day. I wanted to work on to this piece, fix the print a bit with black pencil crayon because unfortunately the print didn't come out successfully. I also wanted to do photo shop work at the side of image recording the time spent with my sister. And finally underneath I wanted to write the words 'Special Mum' because she has always been the close mother figure to me and my twin sister. But unfortunately due to little time I wasn't able to complete this piece.

Visual Self Portrait (drawing)

This piece was another part of my visual self portrait project. Again it was mainly about me and my sisters and I used the quote 'Sisters are different flowers from the same garden' to represent my relationship with my sisters and how different we are yet we all share a strong bond together. I used biro and tonal studies to create different lilies to represent the flowers of the garden and a picture of me and my twin sister with my mum coming out from between the flowers.

Visual Language (Photoshop) 3

for this experiment I took a different approach. Instead of blending both images together I worked on top of both of them. I added an existing completed work on the texture and concentrated more on the font for this piece. The only problem I faced with this experiment was that words would get hidden behind the prints, so I had to place them carefully in order to make it easier to read the quote.

Texture - 2

This was the another texture I created. I was using the card to roll off excess oil paint that I was using for my previous textures and I like the mess it created. So I decided to work on top of this and create another texture. So I ripped old receipts, masking tape, buttons and measuring tape, little stuff that Karen Michel incorporates into her work.

Visual Language (Photoshop) 2

I was experimenting with different textures I created and different fonts to use for my final piece for this project, this piece above was one of the experiments. The style was different from the artist but the idea did originate from Karen Michel.
I used a different approach with the font, using different texts and sizes helped the writing stand out more. And the colour red and size of the fonts helped stand out the main words. I liked how the sun rays were very visible in this piece however I didn't like the clouds getting hidden behind the collage of receipts and paint etc.

Texture - 1

I created this texture using green paint and black oil paint for the background. I used scissors to create the ripped and scratch effect and used masking tape. When I uploaded the texture on photo shop I liked how it blended quite well with the sky photo. The texture gave a old touch to the final piece. However this style was slightly different from Karen's Michel photo shop work but it worked well with the theme.

Visual Language (Photoshop)

This is the second part of my Visual Language project I based on a quote 'Our Greatest Fear Is Not That We Are Inadequate'
I was looking at an artist, Karen Michel (who does fine art, mixed media and photography) for inspiration. She included little quotes in her work and used images and photos to portray them.
I used my own photo that I had taken of the sky and sun rays to represent 'freedom' 'liberation' I thought this image connected well with the quote. Also Karen Michel creates her own textures for her photoshop work so I decided to create my own textures using paints, oil prints and found materials like masking taping, buttons and strings and threads. Then scanned my texture on to the computer and used it on photoshop to create my final piece.

Penguin Book Covers

For my visual langauge project, my brief asked to create a series of penguin book covers that related with the titles. I answered the brief by creating small collages using primary and secondary sources like old photographs and pictures from the internet and magazines. I kept the styles of all the 3 book covers the same because I wanted them to flow together, giving my work the old and vintage effect to it. I also added personal touch to the covers by writing on the covers for example 'Home is where the heart is'.

Visual Language

This piece is also represent another bit of the quote 'Our Greatest Fear'. Again it is inspired by the work of Karen Michel's fine art/mixed media work. I used little small objects like the buttons and rose to give my work the more porsonal effect the way Michel does in her work and I used my own photo of an old family pictures of the kids to portray part of the quote 'We are all meant to shine as children do'

Visual Self Portrait (Monoprint)

Visual Self Portrait was one of my first projects. My brief asked me to create a series of work that connected with me for example my likes and dislikes, my interests, my friends, where I study and work etc. I decided to base my project on my sister because I have a strong bond with them. This piece is representing me and my twin sister, showing how insperable we were since we kids and still are. I used buttons and receipts and other impersonal found objects to give my work a personal effect. Also during the beginning of this project we were asked to find 10 visual communications and other artists for inspiration. I was looking at Jennifer Collier as my inspiration. I like how she takes small impersonal objects and incorporates them into her work, making her whole piece personal which is what I wanted to achieve. My main technique was Monoprint, I used this type of printing because I liked how it gives the drawing a more old and withered effect.

Unpredictable Graphics Book Cover

For this project my brief asked me to create 2 book covers that represented Visual Communication. I was asked to use found materials like magazines images, newspapers, photographs, both primary and secondary sources to create a collage or image for the cover. I used random images I found from the internet and magazines and collaged them together, incorporating small stuff like threads, reciepts, buttons and pennies. I also used red paper underneath the title to prevent it from getting lost inbetween the image. The red helped the title stand out more.

Unpredictable Graphics Book Cover

This is the second book cover for my Unpredictable Graphics project. It was same idea but different images, I used secondary sources mainly in this cover (images from books and magazine). I stuck with a theme, I decided to set my images in the old times around the 50s as you can see by the group photo above and the pocket watch representing time.
